Aberporth to Cardigan on the Wales Coast Path

After completing the Pembrokeshire coastal path in 2023, I thought it wouldn’t be long before I was back to it, taking on the Ceredigion and South Wales sections. However, I somehow ended up having an unplanned year off. I think after the intensity and length of Pembrokeshire, it was what I needed though.

When thinking about diving back in I thought it best to start where it all ended in 2023, in Cardigan. I love having an unbroken line, so this would keep that in tact too.

I parked my car in Cardigan and then got on the T5 bus to Aberporth, from where I started the very long 18KM walk back.

I was most nervous about the first half to Mwnt, as I imagined that would be the most challenging, and there was a farmers field to cross that had no alternative option to get around, so naturally I was nervous about whether there would be cows!

Thankfully on this occasion there were zero cows, and it wasn’t long before I was back on cliff top paths remembering why I love all of this so much and wondering how I could have neglected it for so long.

I’m not sure if it’s because I have taken up running since completing Pembrokeshire, or if Ceredigion’s elevation just isn’t so bad in comparison, but I honestly found the walk to Mwnt really lovely, and not difficult at all. Sadly I didn’t see any dolphins, but I still really enjoyed it.

The second half to Gwbert was nice and easy, and I encountered a lot more people on this section. There were lots more fields here too, but thankfully no cows here either. Once at Gwbert is when the real work started as by this point I was tired and my feet were aching and whilst it seems you are very close to Cardigan, the path just keeps going on and on! There is a very long stretch of pavement too, which I find much harder underfoot, followed by a lot of fields, from which you can hear the estuary and people enjoying it, but sadly you can’t really see it.

However it was a great walk all in, and I’m glad I managed to do it in one long walk, as it is very difficult to break that section up anymore with the limited public transport.

Even more excited to walk the rest of Ceredigion now!
